Welcome to my world.

Well, perhaps ‘website’ is more accurate. And even more accurately, the ‘blog’ section of my website. Seeing as this is my first blog post, I’d like to give a bit of context to where I’m at now, as well as my future plans for this blog.

I graduated from Biola University in May with a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Composition and a french horn minor, but am now attending University of Alaska Fairbanks in a Master’s in Business Administration program for General Management.  My original plan had been to pursue a Master’s degree in music, but then last winter things slowly fell in place for the MBA.  I am, of course, still pursuing media composition long term; but for the short term I’ll be in Juneau, Alaska, while I complete the MBA program, and I’m excited to see what additional doors open in the future because of my expanded skillset.

Having graduated into a pandemic threw wrenches of varying sizes in most plans I had, and my final days of my on-campus undergraduate time were not what they should have been.  One significant loss was not being able to have a traditional senior recital, so my final project (Alaska Suite for Orchestra) was not performed with live musicians and recorded.  Instead, it was an anticlimactic end to my music degree…just a virtual ‘recital’ over Zoom, presenting digital mockups or previous performances of the pieces to the faculty on the jury.

It has been lovely, however, to take a bit of a break from the sometimes suffocating study of music in a traditional institution. Taking a step back and working on projects I wanted to do in the ways I wanted to do them has been a breath of fresh air, while also giving me a chance to do things tangentially-related (like getting this website up and running!).

Since moving back to Alaska post-graduation I’ve been keeping busy with a variety of things. My classes, of course, but also a few music projects – I’m getting close to being able to release the score to Rubaru on streaming services, and I’ve done score (or score supervision, in one case) on a few different short films over the past few months. One of which just released earlier this month! I’ve also been on-set for a few film shoots while here in Juneau; I was a Driver/PA for a week on a National Geographic shoot, as well as a PA for an upcoming Canadian comedy series.

(here’s me on set with my face mask and face shield)

So far as what I plan to use this blog space for…anything, really.  Break down particular scores or scenes I’ve done, talk about projects in general, or maybe thoughts about the creative process.  I’d like to have some kind of record of my journey in this career, and a space to share it with you.

This is that space.  This is that world.
